Caregiver Time Out - Fact Sheet
Summary of the Program
♦ Caregiver Time Out is a program that REIMBURSES caregivers of persons with dementia the cost of respite services. The program is designed to give the primary caregiver a break from caregiving.
♦ Caregivers may choose respite services in the form of:
In-home services – homemaker, companion or personal care provided in the home by a licensed provider. (Some exceptions apply)
Adult Day Care Centers- care provided in a community facility or church/synagogue sponsored program.
Overnight respite- care provided in a licensed assisted living facility or nursing home.
The caregiver is responsible for the selection, arrangement and payment of respite services through a licensed in-home provider, a licensed assisted living facility or an adult day facility. Some exceptions do apply.
Financial Assistance:
♦ Caregivers enrolled in the Caregiver Time Out program are eligible to be reimbursed for respite expense up to $1,200 per year.
♦ Funds are limited and financial assistance is contingent on continued program funding. Services paid by Medicare or Medicaid cannot be reimbursed to the caregiver.
♦ To receive reimbursement, the caregiver must submit a completed verification of service form.
